Mission Statement

The Estrella Mountain Community College Open Source Linux Users Group (LUG) is a club consisting of students, faculty, and staff who are dedicated to expanding their knowledge of Open Source. The primary goal is to provide a forum for Estrella Mountain Community College students, faculty, staff, and community to discuss issues regarding Open Source applications and Linux operating systems.

Monthly Meeting

This month's monthly meeting. The Estrella Mountain Linux User's Group will be holding this monthly meeting at Buffalo Wings & Rings, 2935 N. Dysart road, Avondale, AZ 85323. We will be heading over there right after class this Wednesday. Feel free to bring friends and or family if you wish. This is a great opportunity to meet with some other Linux users. As you may know networking with as many Linux users as possible will open up doors for potential employment opportunities as well as other opportunities. Hope to see you all there.

Anyone needing assistance with Linux issues on their laptops this is the place to be bring your laptop. They provide wireless access and perhaps we can get your issues resolved.

CIS290AC Linux Systems Administration Capstone Class

Starting January 19, 2009 (Spring Semester), Randy Larson will be teaching a Capstone Class for Linux Administration. This class is also a great review class before taking the RHCT/RHCE exams. This class will bring together all concepts learned in CIS126DL, CIS238DL, CIS239DL, CIS240DL, and CIS271DL. The class format is hybrid with 50% of your work online, and the remaining 50% is in-class face-to-face with labs. The face-to-face classes will meet each Monday for 16 weeks from 3:00PM until 5:45PM. (The class is part of the EMCC Networking AAS degrees and counts a 3 semester hours.)

Red Hat Academy

Estrella Mountain Community College offers an Associate’s Degree in Linux Networking. We also offer several College Certificates that you can earn on your way to your Associates Degree. Estella Mountain has recently partnered with Red Hat to form Arizona's first and only Red Hat Academy. Red Hat Linux is the largest Linux Network Operating System in the United Sates, comprising 80% of the Linux market share. Red Hat's RHCT (Red Hat Certified Technician) is the hottest vendor information technology certificate today.
